This method is used for lightweight and flexible shoes. The outsole is attached to the upper by adhesive. This construction method commonly comes with a welt construction that is attached to the rib of the insole. Bonwelt is another variation with its distinguishing feature being a strip of welting attached by stitching or cementing to the top edge of the insole.The shoe is then flat lasted.
A shoe of California constructionhas an upper, and a mid-sole between the sock liner and the out-sole. The mid-sole comprises a molded polyurethane element having a lower surface of a contour complementary to the contour of the upper surface of the out-sole and having an upper surface of a contour complementary to the shape of the bottom of a wearer's foot. A fiberboard backing sheet is bonded to the lower surface of the mid-sole. A leather wrap extends between the upper and the out-sole and surrounds the side wall, the mid-sole, following the contoured shape of the mid-sole side wall.
A type of stitch-down footwear construction technique where upper material is flared outward and wrapped around and under the edge of an extended insole board. The upper is then stitched close to the last and cemented to the sole.
